Cyclone Ditwah was an overwhelming test of resilience for Sri Lanka following the devastating floods and landslides left in the cyclone’s wake. For Vidullanka, employees and the communities residing near some of our power plants had to urgently evacuate as the floodwaters rose to life-threatening levels. In the aftermath, our engineers and employees, after ensuring the safety of their own families, immediately mobilized and undertook the difficult work of putting the plants back in order, while providing relief to the affected communities in the surrounding areas.
This would not have been possible without our proficient staff and the management’s prompt implementation of the company’s Disaster Recovery Plan, and the support of government institutions and the community.
We are thrilled to report that in less than two weeks we are back on our feet, and our plants ready to generate clean energy. This sets a benchmark as our plants are among the first of the mini hydro plants in the country to recover from the effects of this crisis.
This recovery speaks to the humanity and commitment of everyone involved. To all those who contributed to these efforts, thank you for coming together when it mattered most.

Vidullanka PLC is proud to have attained carbon neutrality across our operational portfolio, after having received the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Verification Statement under the internationally acclaimed ISO 14064-1:2018 standard!
The verification was conducted by Control Union Sri Lanka, who presented the Greenhouse Gas Verification Opinion and the Carbon Neutral Certificate to the Vidul team during a handover ceremony held recently.
With this certification, the scope of which includes all our domestic operations and overseas subsidiaries in Uganda, Vidullanka becomes the first power sector company in Sri Lanka to align its GHG reporting with the domestic emission reduction target.

Vidullanka PLC observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month on 28 October 2025 with an enlightening awareness session, conducted by health professionals from the National Cancer Control Programme. The session was open to all employees, who were encouraged to wear pink as a symbol of support.
We are also pleased to note that our female employees have been participating in breast cancer screenings.

Vidullanka PLC held the inaugural opening of the 3 MW Vidul Matara Solar Power Plant on Saturday, 25 October 2025. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Hon. Sunil Handunneththi, Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development and Mr. Morris Wasantha, Chairman of the Kamburupitiya Pradeshiya Sabha. Esteemed members of the clergy, representatives of relevant government bodies and the community were also in attendance.
This plant is the 24th power project in Vidullanka’s portfolio, and will export approximately 5.5 GWh of energy annually to the national grid.

Celebrating the completion of yet another solar power plant by Vidullanka PLC ☀️
On Saturday, 16 August 2025, Vidullanka PLC’s 2nd phase of the Horana solar power plant was inaugurated by the Minister of Energy, Hon. Eng. Kumara Jayakkody. The event was also graced by the presence of Parliamentary MP Ms. Oshani Umanga, Eng. Harsha Wickramasinghe (Director General of the SLSEA), Eng. Piyal Hennayake (Deputy Chairman of PUCSL), and Eng. Vajira Priyantha (Deputy General Manager - Energy Purchase from the CEB) and other esteemed representatives of relevant government authorities and the community.
This commissioned plant has a capacity of 2 MW and will add approximately 3.6 GWh of clean energy annually to the national grid. It brings Vidullanka’s portfolio to a capacity of 63 MW and 23 power plants in total.

On Saturday, 26 July 2025, Vidullanka PLC and WindForce inaugurated the 10 MW Sooryashakthi solar power plant in Vavunativu, Batticaloa. The occasion was graced by the presence of the Minister of Energy, Eng. Kumara Jayakkody. The event was also attended by key representatives of both Vidullanka and WindForce, as well as the CEB, SLSEA and other government authorities.
This project serves as a key achievement for both companies, who each hold a 50% equity stake. The plant is expected to generate and add 19.5GWh of clean energy annually to the national grid.

The Kumu mini hydro power project was inaugurated on Friday, 11 July 2025, with the Honourable Brigadier Mark Phillips, Prime Minister of Guyana and Dr. Mahender Sharma, CEO of the Guyana Energy Agency in attendance at the event. Vidullanka PLC, as the EPC contractor to the project, were also represented at the ceremony.
The Kumu project is the second plant delivered as part of Vidullanka PLC’s EPC contract with the Guyana Energy Agency, the first being Moco Moco which was commissioned in December 2024.
The delivery of these projects is a proud milestone for Vidullanka PLC, and we look forward to seeing its impact on the community of the Lethem region.

On Wednesday, 11 June 2025, Vidullanka PLC held a press conference to mark the issuance of the first ever listed Sukuk in Sri Lanka. The issue, which is set to launch on 17 June, is managed and arranged by NDB Investment Bank Limited with Adl Capital (Pvt) Ltd as joint arranger. Hatton National Bank PLC will serve as trustee and banker to the issue.

Vidullanka PLC recently extended its support to the local government authorities in Kothmale and Kalawana by providing the financial support to supply the respective Grama Niladhari buildings with electricity, under the CSR arm “Vidu Saviya: Gamata Eliyak”. The official openings of the buildings were graced by the presence the respective Divisional Secretaries, several esteemed guests, as well as the residents of the areas.
A tree planting programme was also carried out at each event to promote environmental sustaianbility within the communities. Notably, students from Maldeniya Maha Vidyalaya participated in the programme held in Kothmale.

In December 2024, Vidullanka PLC marked an incredible milestone with the completion of the planting of 100,000 trees at its 9 hydro power plants across the island. This initiative has been a key project for the company’s CSR arm Vidu Saviya: Ratata Sevanak since it’s initiation in 2019.
This achievement reflects the dedication and unwavering efforts of our teams at the power plants, supported by our partners, from the Forest Department, Divisional Secretariats, Grama Niladhari officers, the Central Environmental Authority, the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. The project also involved the collaboration of the police, hospital staff, and passionate school children and teachers, and our neighbours.
As we celebrate this accomplishment, we remain focused on ensuring these trees continue to flourish and contribute to a healthier planet. With an impressive 95% survival rate, these trees are now thriving, fulfilling their purpose—offering shade, producing fruits for livelihoods, protecting riverbanks, and enhancing watershed management. This success is not just an endpoint but a foundation for even greater environmental impact!

The first of two of Vidullanka PLC’s projects under its US$12.85 million Engineering Procurement and Construction contract with the Guyana Energy Agency, the 0.7MW Moco Moco Mini Hydropower Plant, was inaugurated on the 13th of December 2024. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Prime Minister of Guyana, the Honourable Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, alongside representatives of the government, the Guyana Energy Agency, the Lethem Power Company and the community.
In 2022, Vidullanka PLC won the GEA’s EPC contract to reconstruct the Moco Moco Mini Hydropower Plant and build the new 1.5MW Kumu Mini Hydropower Plant, marking its first EPC project in South America. Leveraging decades of renewable energy expertise, Vidullanka completed Moco Moco’s rehabilitation in the latter half of 2024 and finalized work on Kumu, with the transmission line pending grid connection. Together, the plants will deliver a total capacity of 2.2MW, delivering up to 13.76GWh of clean energy annually.
The handover of these projects is expected to enhance the regional economy and improve local livelihoods, showcasing Vidullanka PLC’s expertise and strengthening its position as a pioneer in renewable energy development.
