Vidullanka Plc commissions 11th Mini-Hydropower plant in Badulla

Vidullanka Plc, one of the pioneers of the renewable energy industry, achieved yet another milestone on 29 December 2017 by commissioning its 11th mini-hydropower plant in Badulla.

The Udawela mini-hydropower plant, with an installed capacity of 1.4 MW, utilises the flow of the Badulu Oya and is expected to add 5.5 GWh per annum to the national grid. The power plant is built as a run of the river power plant that is designed to prevent any inundation upstream of the project area. In addition, the power plant is expected to reduce the carbon emission by 3,425 MT equivalent per annum by generating from green energy which will support the achievement of the Government’s vision to build a “Green Economy’.

With the newest addition of 1.4 MW, the gross installed capacity operated by Vidullanka Plc increased up to 26.7 MW, enabling the group to benefit through geographical diversification and operational synergies. The group operates 10 mini-hydropower plants across the island and a 6.5 MW hydropower plant in Uganda.

Having expanded its project portfolio both locally and internationally, Vidullanka expects to continue investments in developing renewable energy sources and they are currently exploring new opportunities both locally and globally which will enable the company to achieve new heights whilst contributing positively to the country and the rest of the earth.
