Vidullanka commissioned its third mini hydropower project that was developed in partnership with Elpitiya plantations Ltd on 10th October 2008. The project is of a total of 560kW installed capacity with an estimated annual production of 2.3GWh. Its location is at Pundaluoya Oya Sheen estate in the Nuwara Eliya district and the water course used is a main branch stream of the river Pundaluoya Oya. After signing the formal agreement with Elpitiya, Vidul launched its team on the implementation activities on 26th January 2008. The Vidul team is proud to state that the project was fully implemented and commissioned within a very short time period of less than 9 months in spite of ordeal encountered in construction of 1.05km long penstock pipe line. The commissioning of this plant will now enhance the Company’s energy Generation to 22.3 Gwh from the current 20 Gwh.
This power plant commenced construction in February 2008. It is situated in the scenic Pundaluoya area. The plant is a ‘Run-of-the-River’ and utilizes the branch area of Pundaluoya as its water source. The machines will collectively produce 560 KW of hydroelectric power, which will be sold only to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) governed by a 20 year Standard Power Purchase Agreement, which in turn, will divert the energy supplies to its customer’s Island wide. The plant infrastructure is sited on a total land extent of approximately 0.6 Ha, and the construction consisted of a flow diversion weir, Headrace channel, Forebay tank, Penstock Pipe, Powerhouse and a Tailrace easily accessible by road. The plant & machinery installed at the power house are of European manufacturer.
