Having spent almost twenty years at Vidullanka, Nadeeja Liyanage is one of few employees who have borne witness to the company’s steady growth. She joined in 2005 as the receptionist and was one of only six Head Office employees at the time. Nadeeja looks back at that time noting that those early years were perhaps the toughest, yet she reminisces with fondness. “…getting hold of (CEO) Mr. Riyaz for signatures and approvals was the biggest difficulty, as he was always on the move in attempts to grow the company.”

To help manage the considerable amount of work that needed to be done, Nadeeja would lend a hand to others in the office. One of those people was the financial manager at the time, and with time she gained an interest in finance. However, it was under the mentorship of our current Chief Financial Officer that Nadeeja learned much of what she knows and puts into practice today. “I started the CMA course in 2012 and I am now the Senior Executive of Financial Reporting, and I am so grateful for everything” she shares.

Nadeeja’s journey of growth is almost parallel to that of Vidullanka, having participated in many memorable projects that the company proudly lists in its portfolio. Her most memorable assignment was the Batathota Hydropower Plant, having helped with everything from engineering to finance and even HR. Watching it come together from the ground up for the first time was a remarkable experience for her.

Speaking of the company, Nadeeja recognizes the longevity that Vidullanka has been able to retain with its employees, giving credit to good workplace culture that is constantly improving and the treatment of employees. She emphasizes the company’s prioritization of work-life balance and their support of both professional and personal priorities. “I give my unwavering support to the company and Vidullanka reciprocates, supporting me both professionally and personally”.

Nadeeja cherishes the second family she has gained at Vidullanka and shares that they don’t feel the need to leave. “We all help each other out and I just love everyone here” she remarks.
