With over twenty-five years of experience as a Chartered Engineer and having held several prominent positions within the engineering industry, Prof. Anura Wijayapala has gained significant recognition as an academic and an industry professional in Sri Lanka.

Prof. Wijayapala was appointed as the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board in 2015, a position bestowed onto him by the Sri Lankan government after having served as Vice Chairman previously. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of WindForce Pvt Ltd from 2018 to 2020. In addition, he was the Chairman of a few companies, namely NERD Center, the Trincomalee Coal Power Company Ltd, and Sri Lanka Energies Pvt Ltd. Moreover, he was a director on the boards of LTL Holdings Ltd, Lanka Electricity Company Pvt Ltd and Lanka Coal Company Pvt Ltd between 2015 and 2017.

Professor Wijayapala has made noteworthy contributions to the study of engineering in Sri Lanka, significantly broadening the domestic academic field of engineering and renewable energy. His portfolio of work addresses the utilization of energy sources through engineering mechanisms, their impact on the environment and the Sri Lankan economy, and analyses of energy management in the country, to name a few.

Before undertaking his current full-time role as a senior faculty member and the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, Prof. Wijayapala worked as an engineer at several companies. He was a Transformer Design Engineer and Factory Manager at Lanka Transformer’s Ltd; he was a Project Manager and Plant Manager at Lakdhanavi Ltd.; and he also led the Hydro Power initiatives at Nividhu Pvt Ltd as Team Manager.

Prof. Wijayapala obtained both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Moratuwa. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Sri Lanka and an International Professional Engineer, and a Corporate Life Member of the Sri Lanka Energy Managers Association.
