In line with the Vidul tradition of starting the year with a fun filled day long sports event, Vidullanka held its 8th Vidul Trophy Annual Cricket Match on 7th January 2017 at Shalika Grounds, Colombo 5. Vidullanka PLC, Head Office clinches Sector award under Trade and Services (Small Category) at the 2014 Taiki Akimoto 5S Awards. It won the Award for the Best 5S implementation beating several other Trade and Services companies. It also won a merit award for the Wembiyagoda Mini Hydro Power Plant.

In the running for the awards there were nearly 80 organizations from the public and private sectors, and representing the manufacturing, banking, telecommunication and trade & services.

The implementation team says that the dedicated and successful implementation of the 5S concept is significant to the success of the hydro power sector. The 5S lays a strong foundation for greater achievements such as the Kai-Zen (continuous improvements) TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and Lean concepts and helps towards achieving the goals in simple way.

Implementing the 5S concept means sustainability and was the corner stone for the improvement of productivity. "The benefits are very tangible and visible. It facilitates a more organized working environment; helps maintain effective preventive maintenance system, low inventory levels, cut down unnecessary costs, saves money and improve the overall quality. Added to this is the high morale and enthusiasm among employees at all levels thus increasing productivity in the long term". The team proudly mentions that, Vidullanka PLC has been wining at the competition from 2009 onwards and winning the sector awards for the consecutive 4 years at their Plants and Head office, shows the high standard and consistency of implementation.

The prestigious Taiki Akimoto 5S Awards are presented by JASTECA (Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association) and recognize the commitment and excellence shown by organizations in implementing the 5S concept.
9th Mini Hydro Power plant in Badulla

Vidullanka PLC commissioned its 9th mini hydro power plant in Badulla. The Rideepana Mini Hydro Power Project, with the installed capacity of 1.75 MW was connected to the national grid on 15th May 2015. The project annually generates and transmits 5.94 GWh of environmental friendly electricity under the standard power purchasing agreement with the Ceylon electricity board.

The Project Company,Rideepana Hydro (Pvt) Ltd is a subsidiary of Vidullanka PLC. The project utilizes the flow of Badulu Oya and annually reduces the country's carbon emission by 3,700 tonns. Vidullanka PLC continues to invest in renewable energy projects, both in Sri Lanka and overseas with the balanced focus on profits, people and the planet.

Vidullanka PLC commissioned its 8th mini hydro power plant in Kothmale, Nuwara-Eliya. The Lower Kotmale Mini Hydro Power Project, with the installed capacity of 4 MW was connected to the national grid in 25th June 2014. The project annually generates and transmits 13.1GWh of environmental friendly electricity under the standard power purchasing agreement with the Ceylon electricity board.

The Project Company, Lower Kotmale Minihydro PVt Ltd is a joint venture between Vidullanka PLC and the Consortium of Investors led by Jaywise Constructions Ltd. The project utilizes the flow of Kothmale Oya and annually reduces the country's carbon emission by 8,225 tonns. Vidullanka PLC continues to venture into the development of small hydro power projects both in Sri Lanka and overseas and have several projects in the pipeline.

Vidullanka PLC, Ganthuna Mini Hydro Power Plant clinches Sector award under Manufacturing (Small Category) at the 2012 JASTECA 5S Awards and records its second consecutive sector award. It won the Award for the Best 5S implementation beating several other manufacturing companies.

In the running for the awards there were nearly 125 organizations from the public and private sectors, and representing the manufacturing, banking, telecommunication and trade & services.

Vidullanka Commissions its 6th Power Project

Vidullanka commissioned its sixth mini hydropower project, " Wembiyagoda mini hydro power project" sited in Kalawana, Rathnapura District. The project is of 1.3 MW capacity and is expected to generate annual energy of 5.26 GWh . The project was constructed under Walagamba Balashakthi (pvt) Ltd, which is fully own subsidiary of Vidullanka plc.

We are proud to announce that Vidullanka PLC, Batathota Mini Hydro Power Plant has been honored by a Bronze award for the Mini Hydro Power Sector at the National Green Awards 2012. We are very proud about this National Level Recognition by the Chief Government Institute which shows the responsibility of maintaining a sustainable environment for the nation.

The main objective of the competition is to reward the people who contribute to maintain cleaner and greener environment through environmental pollution control, waste and resources management, cleaner production and green productivity to ensure the sustainable development of the country. Awards were presented under three categories to 46 sectors in Chemical, Pharmaceutical & Petrochemical, Waste Recycling, Textile and Textile Processing, Hotels, Livestock Farming, Hospitals, apparels, Vehicle Servicing Centers, Food & Beverages, Rubber and Rubber Based Products, Mini Hydro Power Projects, Construction Projects, Local Authorities (Waste management), Private Enterprises, Public Institutes and Schools sectors. To evaluate the applications, an audit team gone through the detail report as well as field visit.

The National Green Awards 2012 organized by the Central Environmental Authority was held at the Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Centre on 03rd December 2012 for the second consecutive year with the presence of President, Mahinda Rajapaksha; Hon. Minister of Environment, Mr. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa; Hon. Deputy Minister of Environment Mr. Al-Hajj Abdul Cader and Hon. Minister of Mahaweli and Irrigations Mr. Nimal Siripala De Silva and many Government officials.

We are proud to announce that Vidullanka PLC, Batathota Mini Hydro Power Plant has been honored by a Certificate for the successful implementation of productivity tools within the organization at the National productivity Awards 2010/2011. By competing with nearly 200 number of private companies, we have become one of the company which has potential for productive.

The primary objective of the competition is to improve productivity at all levels and key objectives of this competition are to create awareness of the benefits and concepts of enterprise level productivity, To Identify model organization with high productivity performance and to promote labour management co-operations. It is generally recognized that productive enterprises in the country will result in a productive nation. Towards this purpose, the judging panel assessed 10 key criteria as Leadership, People, Strategies, Measurements, Processes, People results, Customer results, Society results, Productivity results & Overall performance results. To measure this criteria audit team gone through the detail report as well as field visit.

The National productivity Awards 2010/2011 organized by National productivity Secretariat (Ministry of productivity promotion) for the 09th consecutive time was held at the Sirimavo Bandaranayaka Memorial International Conference Hall on 04th December 2012.

Vidullanka PLC was awarded the certificate of compliance for its annual report 2010/11 by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Srilanka (ICASL). The certificate was awarded under the service sector organizations, and Vidullanka PLC is the one and only renewable energy developer to win such award for the year 2010/11.

The award was given to Vidullanka considering the effective communication to stakeholders of the company through publication of informative annual report; effective presentation of financial and non financial information; and compliance with legislative requirements and generally accepted accounting practices.

Vidullanka Enhances its Power Generation

Vidullanka commissioned its third mini hydropower project that was developed in partnership with Elpitiya plantations Ltd on 10th October 2008. The project is of a total of 560kW installed capacity with an estimated annual production of 2.3GWh. Its location is at Pundaluoya Oya Sheen estate in the Nuwara Eliya district and the water course used is a main branch stream of the river Pundaluoya Oya. After signing the formal agreement with Elpitiya, Vidul launched its team on the implementation activities on 26th January 2008. The Vidul team is proud to state that the project was fully implemented and commissioned within a very short time period of less than 9 months in spite of ordeal encountered in construction of 1.05km long penstock pipe line. The commissioning of this plant will now enhance the Company’s energy Generation to 22.3 Gwh from the current 20 Gwh. This power plant commenced construction in February 2008. It is situated in the scenic Pundaluoya area. The plant is a ‘Run-of-the-River’ and utilizes the branch area of Pundaluoya as its water source. The machines will collectively produce 560 KW of hydroelectric power, which will be sold only to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) governed by a 20 year Standard Power Purchase Agreement, which in turn, will divert the energy supplies to its customer’s Island wide. The plant infrastructure is sited on a total land extent of approximately 0.6 Ha, and the construction consisted of a flow diversion weir, Headrace channel, Forebay tank, Penstock Pipe, Powerhouse and a Tailrace easily accessible by road. The plant & machinery installed at the power house are of European manufacturer. The Company is duly proud of being able to successfully commission its third hydro plant for the entireness efforts of the Board, Management, Staff, workforce and our Shareholders and Stakeholders for their continued loyalty and support placed in the Company.

Celebration: - In celebrating its 10 years in business last week with a simple and elegant event at Silverey Restaurant in Palmadulla Ratnapura. The highlights of the celebrations was to recognize & award Vidullanka’s longstanding staff members who has completed 5 years of service. Riyaz Sangani – Managing Director of the company addressed the gathering by presenting Vidullanka’s history, the Journey of success & business achievements over the 10 years. Currently the company owns & operates 2 Mini Hydro Projects which contributes 5.2 MW to the National Grid and entered into solar power through it’s subsidiary. It is exploring opportunities in the renewable energy source.
Vidullanka Enhances its Power Generation

He Second Small Hydro Power Plant of Vidullanka the ‘Batatota Small Hydro Power Project’ is now connected to the National Grid. The CEB has approved and authorized the grid connection for the entire capacity of 2 MW, which will now enhance the Company’s energy Generation to 20 Gwh from the current 12 Gwh.

Further it will surpass the total consolidated Investment over Rs 500 million and will be entitled for the ten year tax holiday as recommended by the Board of Investment of Srilanka.

This power plant commenced construction in End October 2005. It is situated in the scenic Batatota area, Erathne Kuruwita a region with high rainfall in the Sabragamuwa District. The plant is a ‘Run-of-the-River’ and utilizes the Kuru Ganga as its water source. The machines will collectively produce 2 MW of hydroelectric power, which will be sold only to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) governed by a 15 year Standard Power Purchase Agreement, which in turn, will divert the energy supplies to its customer’s Island wide.

The Company carried out comprehensive feasibility studies and has obtained Government, CEB, Central Environmental Authority and Local authority approvals, utilizing appropriate manpower and technical expertise towards this project. The project team was headed by the General Manager-Hydro Power Division Mr. P.M. Suraweera from the inception stage of identification of the site location to the final stages of constructing & commissioning the plant.

The plant infrastructure is sited on a total land extent of approximately 1.64 Ha, and the construction consisted of a flow diversion weir, Headrace channel, Forebay tank, Powerhouse and a Tailrace channel easily accessible by road. The plant & machinery installed at the powerhouse are a combination of European & Chinese manufacturer.

Vidullanka has fulfilled its Corporate Social Responsibilities and the Company’s efforts have given hope and opened up a vista of opportunities to a number of families in this area .New roads were constructed; a suspension bridge across Kuru Ganga was completely refurbished. A significant contribution was made by the Company on Rural electrification, where the Company funded a Grid connection line from the CEB, which provides electricity for approximately 35 households. A building in the school has been renovated which is amongst other community development projects undertaken by the Company.

Vidullanka Rights Issue Fully Subscribed

The Rights Issue of Vidullanka Ltd was fully subscribed and closed at 4.30 pm on the 26th May 2006. The issue that raised Rs 60 Mn was to fund the company’s second 2-MW Batatota Mini hydro project. The company wishes to thank the shareholders for the trust and confidence placed by them in the company.
